Grass finished Beef

Our grass fed beef is from young Angus-type cattle truly finished (fattened) on a diverse mix of grasses, clovers and forbs.  The critical difference is in the rich, healthy fat in the meat, not just on the meat.  Any grass fed beef, which is typically lean, is a healthy alternative to grain fed, but the real health benefit is from fat based on healthy forages from healthy soil.  With well managed pasture and the right cattle, it is possible to achieve premium quality healthy meat.  There is absolutely no need to compromise on the flavor.

DID YOU KNOW THAT NOT ALL GRASS FED BEEF IS THE SAME?

Grass fed beef does not mean you have to compromise on the flavor. The answer is in the fat. The actual meat/protein of grain fed beef vs. grass fed beef is essentially the same, but cattle that are truly finished on forage produce a rich, flavorful fat that is healthier. If you think the the health benefits of grassfed beef are due to it’s leanness, you may be in for a very pleasant surprise. In order to achieve this healthy fat in the meat and not just on the meat, cattle must steadily gain each day in the last 4-6 months and reach their optimal weight. While a diverse diet of grasses, legumes, and forbes produces a more robust beef flavor compared to grain, it is a challenge to manage pastures to get these results. We are up to this challenge. It is what we do.
